APPLICATION DEADLINE:

What Does a Parole and Probation Case Monitor Do?

As a Case Monitor, you work under the general supervision of a Parole and Probation Sergeant and/or Deputy and support the operation of transitional housing run by the Community Corrections Division. Case Monitors work directly with adults on probation or post-prison supervision who may be transitioning from prison, experiencing homelessness, addressing substance use concerns, or otherwise needing structured housing and support while under community supervision.

Specifically, you will:

  • Conduct resident check-ins, verify curfews, monitor visitors, conduct facility walkthroughs and room inspections, review required paperwork, and monitor compliance with housing and supervision expectations.
  • Respond to resident questions, concerns, rule violations, and other issues that arise during the shift, including emergency situations, and communicate significant concerns to supervisory staff or the resident’s supervising Parole and Probation Deputy.
  • Meet individually with residents on a regular basis to discuss goals, identify barriers, encourage progress, and assist residents in working toward the case plan established with their supervising Parole and Probation Deputy.
  • Develop professional working relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries, enforcing program expectations, and supporting accountability and positive behavioral change.
  • Document resident behavior, significant events, compliance concerns, and other relevant information through professional email communication, daily logs, and other required documentation. Written communication must be clear, objective, specific, and professional.
  • Provide information and documentation that may be used by Parole and Probation Deputies in supervision decisions, investigations, violation reports, and other case-management activities.
  • Assist with routine administrative and program-support duties necessary for the operation of Community Corrections programs.
  • May have opportunities to assist Parole and Probation Deputies with reviewing records, organizing supporting information, preparing documentation, and other supervision-related assignments.
  • May work during regular business hours to assist Parole and Probation Deputies, provide front desk coverage, assist with investigations and special projects, and collect or organize statistical and program information.
  • May participate in observational and learning opportunities, including home visits, field contacts, office visits, and interactions with other professionals and agencies within the criminal justice system, as well as other related tasks and duties as assigned.

What schedule would I work?

This is a temporary, part-time position. You will work approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, primarily during evening hours. The position has a maximum of 1,040 hours in a fiscal year (7/1 to 6/30) period.

How Much Does it Pay?

You will earn $17.00 per hour. Temporary employees are not members of the collective bargaining units and are not eligible to accrue holiday, vacation, or personal leave. Temporary employees can, however, apply for regular status positions open to internal candidates only and, if appointed to a regular position of the same or equivalent classification, in the same department in which the temporary position was situated, may receive credit toward their probationary period. While benefits are limited, the hands-on experience you gain as a Case Monitor is a valuable asset to your career in corrections or criminal justice.
