We are looking to hire 1 full time seasonal Marine Patrol Deputy (40 hours per week) May-September 2025 and 1 part time seasonal Marine Patrol Deputy to work weekends (20 hours per week). A Marine Patrol Deputy is an on-call position with a maximum of 1040 hours per year. Hours will be available on an irregular basis.

Performs law enforcement and crime prevention activities relating to state and local marine and criminal laws and ordinances including arrests, transport of adults in custody, investigate crimes and criminal complaints, and prepare necessary reports.

How much does it pay?

Current rate of pay for Marine Patrol Deputies is $20.51 – $29.74 per hour.  This is a non-benefited position.

Call outs to assist with a water rescue/recovery at various hours are possible.

What schedule would I work?

Work days will typically be between Thursday through Sunday with the ability to take one to two weekends off during the summer. All seasonal positions will be expected to work or be available on the major weekends and holidays during the summer.

Hours are typically 10-hour days from 9am – 7pm, or 10am – 8pm later in summer.

Am I qualified?

Minimum qualifications require…

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • A Valid State issued Driver’s License with good driving record
  • 21 years of age or older
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Completion of the swim test and other standards as required by the Marine Supervisor and/or Oregon State Marine Board (tread water for 5 min, hold breath 30 seconds, swim 100 yards, float unassisted for 5 min)
  • Pass the POST-Police Officer Selection Test
  • Pass a background, psychological and medical evaluation before being hired
  • Meet BCSO qualifications and standards for firearms and defensive tactics
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications within 60 days of hiring
  • Prior BCSO Marine Patrol Experience Preferred at hire:
    • Prior boating or marine experience, law enforcement certification, and/or DUII/DRE enforcement experience
    • Marine Patrol Academy Certification (successful applicants will be required to maintain certification)
    • Have a valid Oregon Boater Education Card

  • Initial Criminal History and DMV Screening
  • Written Exam (POST Test)
  • Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)
  • Personal History Questionnaire
  • Oral Board (interview)
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Examination
