Social Visiting Rules

  • To visit an AIC, follow these rules:
  • The AIC must complete orientation and classification before visits can begin.
  • The AIC must add you to an approved visitor list. The list must include your full name, date of birth, address, and phone number. Jail staff do not add visitors to the list for the AIC.
  • Jail staff review each visitor list and may approve or deny visits based on criminal history or conduct during prior incarcerations or jail visits.
  • Visitors under age 18 must come with a parent or legal guardian, unless they provide legal proof of marriage to the AIC. Minor children of an AIC may visit with a parent or legal guardian.
  • Bring a current, valid photo ID.
  • Do not bring personal belongings into the visiting area.
  • Do not bring a cell phone into the visiting area.
  • Jail staff may search visitors under jail policy.
  • Wear appropriate clothing. Jail staff may deny entry for clothing that is too revealing or that looks like jail-issued clothing. The jail prohibits mini skirts, very short shorts, spandex-type clothing, see-through clothing, low-cut tops, and bare midriffs.
  • Do not come to the jail if you appear intoxicated. Jail staff will deny entry to visitors who show signs of alcohol or drug intoxication.
  • Keep children with you and maintain order in the visiting area. Jail staff may end a visit if an adult or child causes a disturbance.
  • Visits last up to 30 minutes.
  • Each AIC may receive one visit per day.
  • The number of visits allowed each week depends on the AIC’s classification level.

Professional Visiting

Professional visits do not require an appointment, but the Sheriff’s Office encourages appointments when possible. Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for professional visiting only.

Professional visits are for:

  • Attorneys
  • Ministers
  • Counselors
  • Other approved professionals

Contract Beds and Transporting Inmates

Once Adults in Custody (AIC) complete the orientation process the inmates can be transported to any contract bed facilities in Linn County and Clatsop County Jail. With the current facility (40 beds) and the contract beds, BCSO can handle around 80 AICs.

Transporting AICs is obviously time-consuming, and it is costing Benton County one million dollars a year in just transport money.

That does not include gas and the transport deputies pay. In 2023, 792 Adults in Custody were transported by deputies traveling 33,393 miles. In 2024, 731 Adults in Custody were transported 31,799 miles.

Although most AICs housed in the contract facilities are transported on set days during the week, there are multiple occasions where we make special transports to adjoining districts and Dallas.

Rules for AICs Held in Contract Facilities

Adults in Custody held at contract facilities are under that facilities rules and regulations. It is highly encouraged to know what facility the AIC you’re trying to contact is being held, for each jail facility has its own rules and regulations that must be obeyed.
