Honor Guard
Honor Guard
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Honor Guard is a ceremonial unit and the formal representation of the Sheriff. Formed in 2015, the Honor Guard performs ceremonial duties at the direction of the Sheriff. These may include participating in law enforcement funerals, memorial ceremonies, color (flag) presentations, parades, and other special events. In their inaugural appearance, the Honor Guard participated in the line of duty memorial service for Coos County Deputy Gil Datan.
The Honor Guard Unit
Honor Guard members are sworn Deputies who have been specially chosen for this duty. Members from all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office are eligible for Honor Guard duty. Currently the Honor Guard is made up of Deputies from the Law Enforcement and Corrections divisions.
Honor Guard members must be able to perform close order drill and ceremony, often standing motionless for long periods. Each Deputy must have discipline and stamina and present a professional appearance. The Honor Guard takes great pride in representing the dedicated and professional men and women of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and considers it an honor to participate in ceremonial events.
