Benton County Drug Take Back Event

Yellow yard sign. Drug Take Back Event Straight Ahead.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office hosts a free Drug Take-Back Event. Bring your expired or unused medications for safe, proper disposal.

Event date: Saturday, April 25, 2026
Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (we close promptly at 2:00 p.m.)
Format: One-day, drive-through event

Where to Go

Kalapuya Building parking lot, 4500 SW Research Way, Corvallis, Oregon

Enter the parking lot from the west entrance off SW Research Way. Follow the signs and volunteer directions. Pull forward to the canopy with the “STOP” sandwich board. Drop your medications directly into the disposal box.

What Medications You Can Bring

You may bring expired or unwanted medications for yourself, your family, or a deceased family member. This includes prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. We do not ask who the medications belong to.

Liquids (such as cough syrup) are also accepted. Keep them sealed in their original containers with caps tightly closed to prevent leaking.

You do not need to remove medications from their packaging. If you choose to, use a permanent marker to cover your name and prescription number on the label. We destroy all packaging along with the medications.

What is restricted?

Please DO NOT bring the following items. We are unable to accept them:

  • Thermometers or other mercury products
  • Intra-venous solutions
  • Injectables
  • Chemotherapy medications
  • Sharps such as syringes, lancets, needles, EpiPens, etc.
  • Electronic glucose monitors
  • Medical or hazardous waste of any kind
  • Illegal drugs
  • Items from businesses (veterinary clinics, doctor’s offices, foster homes, nursing homes, etc.)

This event is for individual households only.

If We Cannot Accept Your Item

For items we cannot accept, check with your local pharmacy or waste service. Many accept sharps and medical waste for a modest fee. You can also visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website for federal disposal guidelines.

Event Frequency

This is the only Drug Take-Back event the Benton County Sheriff’s Office sponsors this year. Check this website next year for updated event details. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also sponsors national take-back days. Visit the DEA website to find other collection sites near you.

What Happens to the Medications

Law enforcement secures all collected medications immediately after the event. We dispose of them by incineration in an environmentally sound manner.

Why We Offer This Event

This event protects our community in two important ways. First, it keeps prescription medications away from children and others who might misuse them. Prescription drug misuse is a serious public health concern, especially among teens and young adults. Second, it protects our water supply. Throwing medications in the trash or flushing them down the toilet contaminates drinking water. Proper disposal at this event keeps drugs out of our water.

How This Event is Possible

The DEA sanctions and supports this event as part of their National Take-Back Initiative. Our Reserve Deputies, Auxiliary Team, and CERT members volunteer their time to make it run smoothly. Community partners also provide critical support. Thank you to all volunteers and community partners who make this event possible.
