Budget

The members of the Sheriff’s Office take pride in being fiscally responsible and good stewards of public monies. The Sheriff’s Office receives funding through dedicated funds, general funds and fees. Dedicated funds must, by law, be expended only for those items for which they have been allocated. The general fund, also referred to as CURF or County Unrestricted Funds, and fees collected for Sheriff’s Office services, are allocated by the Sheriff (although still somewhat restricted by statute). The Sheriff’s Office budget must be approved by the County Commissioners and the County Budget Committee. The County is on a biennial (every two-year) budget.
