Benton County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (NHMP)

Benton County developed the multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan to reduce future loss of life and property damage from natural hazards. An approved plan keeps the County compliant with state and federal law. It also preserves eligibility for pre- and post-disaster funding.

No one can predict exactly when natural hazards will occur. No one can predict how severely they will affect the community. Careful planning can reduce losses. Collaboration among public agencies, private sector organizations, and community members also helps limit impacts.

In July 2016, the Board of Commissioners formally adopted the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. The NHMP update was adopted April 2024 by the Benton County Board of Commissioners.
