Benton County Sheriff’s Office Memorial Weekend Traffic Results

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Over Memorial weekend, from May 24 through May 27, 2024, Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputies performed a total of 133 traffic stops. Among these stops, five arrests were made for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and 53 traffic citations were issued. Additionally, 34 speed citations were given to drivers reaching speeds as high as 93, 94, 96, and 114 near Blodgett on Highway 20.

“I want to take this opportunity again to thank the Benton County community for their continued assistance and ongoing partnership as it relates to this topic,” stated Sheriff Van Arsdall. “You are the eyes and ears in the community and a vital asset to the continued education and enforcement of these laws. I also want to thank the Benton County Deputy Sheriffs who make community safety a priority every day.”

The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is marked by an increase in drunk driving, and too many lives are lost on roadways every year because of it. Drunk driving is a choice that no one should make, and the crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are the result of these actions are one hundred percent preventable. BCSO encourages drivers to continue reporting erratic behavior such as passing in no-passing zones, following too closely, excessive speeds, or if a vehicle is failing to maintain its lane, have your passenger call 9-1-1 immediately. If you are traveling alone, first find a safe place to pull over before calling. Report the location, direction of travel, license plate, and description of the vehicle. Calling 9-1-1 is time sensitive; please do not wait to report unsafe driving. Your prompt action can help prevent a crash and keep our roads safe.
