Welcome to the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) information page.
Purpose
The ARES Unit is a group of amateur radio operators who are assist the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services and municipal agencies in an emergency or disaster. Volunteers provide radio communications and support from both base camp and the field to support communications for other agencies and community organizations.
ARES members are specialists in various forms of radio communications modes, including computerized packet radio, short and long distance voice and Morse code, even amateur radio television. To be an amateur radio operator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires that individuals pass examinations in technical and regulatory competence. ARES periodically offers license classes and examinations.
Meeting information
- When: The ARES Unit meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month.
- Where: Benton County Public Works located at 360 SW Avery Ave., in the Day Room.
