Community Involvement
What do members of the Sheriff’s Office do when they’re not on the job keeping the public safe? Many volunteer their time to support local charities and non-profit organizations.
Sheriff’s Office employees are actively engaged in the community. They coach sports, help kids shop for holiday gifts, raise funds for charities, mentor young people, and serve in leadership positions on non-profit Boards. They partner with other community members, volunteering their time to make a difference in our community.
Chili Cook Off
The Public Safety Chili Cook-Off is a community event that’s fun for the whole family and a great way to raise money for local programs!
Mary’s Peak Cleanup
Each autumn, community and BCSO members spend some time helping to clean up the Mary’s Peak rock quarry where people have been target shooting for years.
Mounted Posse Special Needs Ride
The Benton County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse annually hosts a horseback riding event for children with special needs and their siblings.
The event takes place at the Benton County Fairgrounds where children are helped onto a horse and led around the arena. Riders must be between the ages of 3 and 18. They must be able to hang on by themselves, although volunteers help the children on and off the horses and spot them as they walk around the arena.
School Supplies
Each year during late August and early September, deputies, staff, and volunteers purchase school supplies and drop them off in the Sheriff’s Office Briefing Room. Everything from backpacks to spiral notebooks are collected for the schools. Sometimes staff purchase items while doing back-to-school shopping for their own families.
Shop with a Cop
Every December, Benton County Sheriff’s Office members partner with other law enforcement agencies to make the holidays a little brighter for children in our community who would otherwise go without. Deputies take the children shopping for toys, clothing, and gifts. The kids arrive early on the designated “Shop with a Cop” day to walk the store aisles with deputies from Patrol, Corrections, and Parole & Probation, City Police Officers, and OSU Public Safety.
